"The days are filled with warm hugs and lots of positive reinforcement."

Pre-primary and Pre-kindergarten

Our full-day preschool programs are small classroom environments with a teacher-student ratio of 1:7 or less. We have three highly qualified, dedicated teachers in each class who are devoted to fostering each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our programs create an environment that is supportive and nurturing and fosters:

Our programs are implemented in a developmentally-appropriate manner, inspired by guidelines established by the National Association of Educators of Young Children. This means that activities are:
  • Age-appropriate. Our curriculum is based on knowledge of typical development of children through universal stages and predictable sequences of growth and development. Attention to development in language and cognitive skills, emergent literacy and writing skills and math readiness is embedded throughout the curriculum.
  • Individually appropriate. Children move through these stages and sequences of growth at individual rates. Developmentally appropriate practice involves honoring a child's uniqueness, learning styles, ways of being intelligent, family background and cultural heritage.
  • Child-initiated. Activities are carried out as the children see fit with purposeful engagement, but within a framework provided by the teacher. Children are the best guides as to what they are ready to do, understand or explore.
  • Teacher supported. An intentional and planned context for learning is provided by the teacher. The teacher acts as a resource for and a facilitator to the children. Teachers ask open-ended questions that encourage inquiry, thought, discussion and reflection by the child rather than expecting prescribed "right” answers.

The classrooms are filled with age-appropriate toys, games, books, puzzles and other materials designed to foster children’s development. Stories, songs, finger plays and dancing are integral parts of every day.

The days are filled with warm hugs and lots of positive reinforcement. Children spend their days participating in a balance of active and quiet, indoor and outdoor pre-academic activities. They are given time to make choices among fun learning centers and have designated times to be with specialists such as art, media, music, Spanish and physical education. When combined, this provides the children with the opportunity to begin working cooperatively as members of a group. Most importantly, our classroom settings provide an environment that encourages children’s creative play, for a child’s play is a child’s work.
