Communications

Every Thursday, the school sends home a news bulletin. The bulletin gives weekly up-dates about school news and events. It is sent home with the oldest child in each family. Gwen Andrews, Assistant to the Head of School, publishes the TCS bulletin. Please submit all entries to Gwen by noon on Wednesday so that she can place them in the bulletin on Thursday.

In addition to the bulletin, a monthly newsletter is distributed to The Children’s School community. This newsletter highlights class activities and special features.

Reporting to Parents
The faculty will make three formal reports to parents during the school year. The first is a conference with the teacher and parents in the fall. The second is a written report and a conference in the winter and the third is a written report at the end of the school year. Third through sixth grade students are present during the conferences. Conferences are important, and we encourage parents to adjust their schedules so that all necessary family members will be present at the appointed time.

Additional conferences may be set up at any time by parents or teachers and may include the administration when desired. When necessary, administrators and/or teachers may be called at home before 9:00 p.m.

Inclement Weather/School Closings
School closings or late openings due to inclement weather and/or dangerous road conditions will be announced on TV Channels 2, 5, 11 and 46 and radio stations WSTAR 94.1 FM and WSB AM 750. In addition, we will also announce closing and openings on our voice mail at school and on our web site (www.thechildrensschool.com).

Crisis/Emergency Plan
The Children’s School has a Crisis Management plan that details actions of all faculty and staff in case an emergency and/or crisis occurs at the school or in the school community. Parents will be notified by letter, phone, and/or web site as to the extent of the emergency and how it is being handled. In the event of any emergency or crisis, the Head of School or her designee is the spokesperson for the school.

Tornado/Fire Drills
Each classroom has an emergency bulletin posted that explains tornado and fire drill procedures. Students practice tornado and fire drills so that they are familiar with the evacuation process.

The Children’s School maintains a battery operated weather radio at all times. Should an emergency arise, children will be supervised appropriately.
